HVCR cables

Corona is an ion and electron discharge set up in gases through which an electric field is impressed. All insulated wires have minute voids at the interface of the wire and the insulation. Under the stress of high voltage gradients, ions are formed in these cavities and accelerated by the field. These Ions bombard the wall of the cavity, breaking down the insulation and enlarging the voids. This process continues until the insulation is penetrated, causing failure
